Design of a web site is usually divided into following stages:

development of design specifications;
design of the main page;
design of all unique inside pages;
HTML coding.

As with any technical project, creation of design requires a clear statement of the problem.

No one professional designer starts work without detailed specification. A clear statement of the problem provides a well-coordinated work of several specialists, eliminates possible misunderstandings between the customer and the developer. In terms of reference for design specification often includes the following information:

customer requirements in the field of artistic and technical excellence;
list of competitors with the items customer likes or dislikes;
range of colors and font types;
elements of corporate identity that should be used in the design;
site map;
description of functionality and programming scripts;

It is really complex to indicate the main features of modern web site, because web design is closer to art and can’t be described with clear definitions. However there are few criteria that up-to-date site should correspond to.

First: minimalism, simplicity and intuitive interface. Users visit your site to find specific information, and even if your site is made in the avant-garde style with all sorts of technical solutions and fashion victim, a visitor can hardly appreciate it if for finding the necessary information he needs to waste much time in dense forest of navigation.

Second: correct displaying of your site in most used browsers. New browsers support modern features of HTML5 and CSS3. However there are still Internet surfers who use old-school software, who unfortunately will inevitably turn out to be “overboard”
